In this Classroom Spotlight, we’re excited to feature another customer space where flexible classroom furniture is hard at work. Pomperaug High School in Southbury, Connecticut (Region 15 Schools) has outfitted several classrooms with dry erase Contour student desks paired with Apex chairs by Marco Group, creating environments that support collaboration, movement, and student choice.
It’s always rewarding to see this furniture in situ and how it helps teachers design learning spaces that fit their students.
Flexible Desks that Support Collaboration
In one classroom layout, the contour desks are grouped into pods so students can easily turn, talk, and collaborate. The dry erase surfaces give students a place to jot down ideas, work through problems, or plan projects right at their seats—no need to wait for a turn at the board.
Contour Desks, formerly known as Dog Bone Desks, can be used individually or nested together for small group work, making them a great fit for STEM classes, project-based learning, and other collaborative activities. Paired with Apex chairs, the setup supports active learning while keeping the room feeling open and easy to navigate.
Versatile Layouts for Every Lesson
Another classroom shows the same contour desks arranged in forward-facing rows to support direct instruction while still maintaining flexibility. Because the desks are easy to move and reconfigure, teachers can quickly shift from lecture mode to partner or group work as needed.
Apex chairs provide comfortable seating that supports posture and focus throughout the day, while remaining lightweight enough for students and teachers to move as the room changes. Across these spaces, the common thread is versatility—teachers can adjust layouts to match the lesson, and students benefit from seating and work surfaces designed to keep them engaged.
Thank you to Pomperaug High School and Region 15 Schools for sharing these classroom photos with us. We appreciate the opportunity to see how contour desks and Apex chairs are being used to support students and bring flexible classroom design to life.
