The History of World Teachers' Day
World Teachers' Day celebrates the adoption of the "1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers." This policy worked to implement criteria concerning the "rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions."
This day not only provides us with the opportunity to show our support for and celebrate teachers globally, but it allows us to reflect on how we can support them further in order to ensure that they can continue teaching. It's also a good day to consider the issues that are preventing the education system from moving forward.
More About World Teachers' Day Events for 2022
World Teachers' Day is taking place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France. The uniting theme for the 2022 World Teachers' day is "The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers." Opening commemorations begin at 10:00 am Paris time on October 5th and the award ceremony for the "2022 UNESCO-Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development" will take place at 11:30 AM.
