Choosing Your Ideal Cafeteria Setup

There is so much to consider when setting up a cafeteria in a school. As one of the largest areas in a school, it is often used for various purposes. This means the furniture in the cafeteria needs to be versatile and easily converted for multiple layouts and events. We've compiled a few things to keep in mind the next time you're shopping for new cafeteria tables.

Let's Eat

We can't overlook that the primary purpose of a cafeteria is a place for students to eat. As such, it is imperative that the furniture provides as much seating as possible and can be easily and quickly cleaned in between lunch blocks. Options such as these waves or swerve tables offer an excellent, traditional lunch table option. They can be wiped off quickly, provide separate stools for each student (which will help with personal space for the younger students), and are on wheels so they can be moved around to new configurations. Tables such as these also seat quite a few students at one table (12 for both of these examples).

If you're looking for something a little less traditional, round tables can be a useful alternative. These tables can still sit quite a few students, fold up for easy storage, and are mobile. Plus, round tables allow for better conversation and collaboration when needed.

Outdoor seating is also a less traditional, but increasingly popular option. As a bonus, these tables can double as an outdoor classroom for teachers and students.

Meeting Spaces

Cafeterias can be used for much more than an eating space. When large groups of people need to come together and work, for staff meetings, PTA meetings, or instructional purposes, the cafeteria often makes the most sense. In these instances, schools need tables that allow for easy conversation between participants, such as round tables, or these hexagon-shaped tables. The hexagon shape can also be arranged in more creative layouts since they have flat sides.

Smaller options such as a folding booth or cluster booth allow for smaller groups, while still being easy to move or combined with other tables. Schools with older students, such as high schools, often find that this type of seating is popular among students during lunch as well.

A Place to Gather

Since the cafeteria is so large, it makes sense to use it for assemblies, dances, performances, and other large events. For these events, you may need to empty the center of the cafeteria. This means you'll want tables on wheels that can fold up or be easily stored. For performances and assemblies, the audience will need somewhere to sit. Bench tables create great seating for an audience since everyone can face the same direction without losing any space or seating.

When looking for new cafeteria furniture, the most important thing is to evaluate what your space looks like, how it will be used, and who will be using it. Once you've determined your school's top priorities for the room, contact us and we will help you find the perfect furniture to maximize your cafeteria space.
